\nUsing less water, particularly less hot water, is a great way to lower your bill. Bathing quickly and filling tubs halfway for baths and washing dishes are all great ways to cut down on daily water use. Even an act as simple as turning off the water while brushing your teeth can make a significant difference. For even greater conservation, consider installing a gray water system to recycle water from your home. Installing rain barrels for watering your lawn is also an effective way to minimize use.<\/p>\n
\nPlenty of recyclable material still ends up in the trash. Not every community offers recycling programs, but there are ways you can reuse products instead of scrapping them. Planting trees and shrubs can help lower bills in the summer by reducing direct heat to your roof and siding, and planting native species of plants can help bring back dwindling native species. Learn what species are native to your area via online research or a visit to a local nursery.<\/p>\n
